Product details for Synology RackStation RS819 4-bay NAS
Make sure you and your team are well-prepared for the workday with the RS819 rackmount NAS from Synology. This RS819 NAS (network-attached storage) device, unlike normal external hard drives, can be directly integrated to your network. It also uses much less electricity than regular PCs and offers you ample space for all your data. The rackmount NAS device and is equipped with a Realtek RTD1296 1.40 GHz processor. Several users can access data at the same time thanks to the 2 GB of RAM. The following data storage arrays are available for this rackmount NAS system: 0, JBOD, 10, 6, 5 and 1. Using a JBOD architecture to create a multi-disk storage space means you can combine hard drives of random sizes and will not lose the storage capacity of any of them. This is not the case with RAID levels.
RAID 0 stores your data on multiple drives, which increases performance and speed as all work is split among the various drives rather than handled by just one. The drives should ideally have equal storage capacities and a minimum of two drives are required. This RAID level offers no fault tolerance and is therefore best suited for large volumes of high speed storage. Using RAID 1 means you get high data security. This is achieved by mirroring, which simply means that your data is duplicated from one drive to another, so that if one fails, nothing is lost. This also means that the total storage capacity of your drives will be halved. RAID 1 is best suited for smaller NAS systems. RAID 5 stores your data on multiple drives, which gives you high data security. If a drive begins to fail, the data it holds will be recreated and distributed to the other drives allowing users to continue working uninterrupted. For larger NAS systems with more than three hard drives RAID 5 is the ideal choice to retain optimal data security and total drive storage capacity. You get a higher level of data security when implementing RAID 6, even if two hard drives fail, the system will still be operational.

The RS819 delivers sequential data throughput of over 225 MB/s
(read) and 169 MB/s (write)
With outstanding encrypted data transfer rates -224 MB/s read and 152 MB/s write - the RS819 is an efficient shared memory for many users that protects valuable data.
