Product details for QNAP TS-2888X 128GB 28-bay NAS

The TS-2888X-W2175-128G desktop NAS from QNAP efficiently stores your data and files. This TS-2888X-W2175-128G NAS (network-attached storage) device, unlike traditional external hard drives, can be integrated directly to your network. It also requires far less power than regular PCs and offers you over enough space for all your data. The desktop NAS device and is equipped with an Intel Xeon W-2175 2.5 GHz processor. The high 128 GB RAM allows several users to simultaneously access its stored data. This model ensures that you won't need to worry about long loading times again. The following data storage arrays are available for this desktop NAS system: 0, JBOD, 60, 50, 10, 6, 5 and 1. When using JBOD (or "just a bunch of disks") you can combine several hard drives, regardless of their storage capacity, and retain all of the storage space. This is not the case with RAID levels.

Using RAID 0 means your hard drives (ideally of equal storage capacities) are interconnected and work parallely. This increases performance and speed as the work is split bewteen multiple drives, but there is no fault tolerance. When using RAID 1 your data will be mirrored from one drive to another so that if one fails you will not lose any information. This fault tolerance also means that your total drive storage capacity is halved due to duplicated content. For smaller NAS systems RAID 1 is an ideal option. RAID 5 stores your data on multiple drives, which gives you high data security. If a drive begins to fail, the data it holds will be recreated and distributed to the other drives allowing users to continue working uninterrupted. For larger NAS systems with more than three hard drives RAID 5 is the ideal choice to retain optimal data security and total drive storage capacity. RAID 6 offers you high data security and is still operational even if two hard drives in the system fail.
