Product details for QNAP TS-1677X-1700-16GB 16-Bay NAS

QNAP's TS-1677X-1700-16G desktop NAS is a secure, efficient storage solution for your data. This TS-1677X-1700-16G NAS (network-attached storage) device, unlike traditional external hard drives, can be directly integrated to your network. It also uses much less electricity than regular PCs and offers you over enough space for all your data. The desktop NAS device and is equipped with an AMD PRO Ryzen 7 1700 3.0 GHz processor. The high 16 GB RAM allows several users to simultaneously access its stored data. This model ensures that you won't need to worry about long loading times again. The following data storage forms are available for this desktop NAS system: 0, 1, 5, 6, 10, JBOD, 50 and 60. JBOD (or "just a bunch of disks") allows you to connect hard drives of various sizes to create a multi-drive storage system. Unlike RAID levels, you will not lose any storage capacity of the various drives you combine.

When using RAID 0, hard drives (ideally of equal storage capacities) are interconnected and work in parallel — this means a higher, faster performance as computer tasks are not handled by just one drive. However, there is no fault tolerance because data is not mirrored, which means this RAID level is better suited for high speed storage of large volumes of data. When using RAID 1 your data will be mirrored from one drive to another so that if one fails you will not lose any information. This fault tolerance also means that your total drive storage capacity is halved due to duplicated content. For smaller NAS systems RAID 1 is an ideal option. When using RAID 5 your data is split among multiple drives and when one drive has an error the data is then copied and distributed to the other drives. This method offers you high data security and you can retain the total storage capacity of all your drives. It's the optimal choice for larger NAS systems with more than three hard drives. RAID 6 offers you high data security and is still operational even if two hard drives in the system fail.
