Product details for QNAP TS-1677X-1200-4GB 16-Bay NAS

With the TS-1677X-1200-4G desktop NAS from QNAP you can efficiently store your files and data. Different from the usual external hard drives, the NAS (network-attached storage) device can be integrated directly into your network. This gives all computers connected to your network access to the device and data. It offers you over enough storage space and requires much less electricity than regular PCs. The desktop NAS device and is equipped with an AMD PRO Ryzen 3 1200 3.1 GHz processor. The 4 GB RAM allows several users to access data at the same time. The following data storage arrays are available for this desktop NAS system: 0, 1, 5, 6, 10, JBOD, 50 and 60. JBOD (or "just a bunch of disks") allows you to connect hard drives of various sizes to create a multi-drive storage system. Unlike RAID levels, you will not lose any storage capacity of the various drives you combine.

RAID 0 stores your data on multiple drives, which increases performance and speed as all work is split among the various drives rather than handled by just one. The drives should ideally have equal storage capacities and a minimum of two drives are required. This RAID level offers no fault tolerance and is therefore best suited for large volumes of high speed storage. RAID 1 offers you high data security through data mirroring. A replica is created of all your data from one drive to another, meaning if one crashes you will still retain all of your information. This also means that the capacity of all your drives is halved because of duplicated content. For smaller NAS systems RAID 1 is an ideal option. Using RAID 5 means your data is split among multiple hard drives — when one drive has an error the data is copied and distributed to the other drives. With this method you can retain the storage capacity of all your drives. It's the ideal choice for larger NAS systems with more than three drives. You get a higher level of data security when implementing RAID 6, even if two hard drives fail, the system will still be operational.
